Sun-Dried Tomato Sauce

Sun-dried tomatoes pack an intense flavor and our available year round. Simply rehydrate, puree and season to taste. Ready in minutes for pasta, dips, and for topping pizzas.

The ingredients listed below were all purchased from Dollar Tree. Who says you can't eat well on a budget.

Yields 2 cups


1 c Sun-dried tomato halves [Dollar Tree]

1/2 c Hot water

1 c San Marzano style tomatoes, canned

1T White vinegar

1t Kosher salt

1t White pepper [black pepper if not available]

1T Dried basil

1T Dried oregano

1t Garlic powder

1t Onion powder

1/2t Chili flake optional


  1. In a non metal bowl, add sun-dried tomatoes and pour hot water over to cover. Let them soak for 15 minutes.

  2. Drain sun-dried tomatoes and reserve water. Set aside.

  3. Combine San Marzano tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes in a blender, puree until smooth. Use reserved liquid to thin out sauce if necessary.

  4. Place a medium sized sauce pan over medium heat and bring tomato puree to a low simmer. Add dry seasoning and chili flake to taste

Sauce can be used for pizza, pasta or use as a dip
